Another thing that allows people to make visual links to is hair. Its turned into a motif and is works towards promoting our artist.

Last Blog

It's been a hard but fulfilling experience working on my blog and work. I have learnt a lot along the way in regards to how to construct and analyse a music video. It's also been a lot of fun coming up with ideas that we can incorporate in to our product. In the end I believe that we all worked hard and enjoyed the experience and are proud of the work that we did.

Evaluation Question 4

Evaluation Question 1

These Ancillary products were my main sources of inspiration, the black and white from chase and status with sharp contrasting yellow was used in my product. The advert for Devlin featuring a wall I thought was something that suited my ancillary work. Aspects of Delilah's advert inspired my own.

Question 3 Evaluation

Evaluation Question 2: Vlog

Stills from the music video are reflected in the inside panel of my album digipak, giving a sense of mystique that we created. The lights in the background attracting attention similar to how the bright text does.

You can see the emphasis that we had on our artists hair as well as the look of longing and sadness in certain shots.  our artist also limits how often she looks at the camera, giving a sense of disconnect and isolation from the audience. However when she looks at the camera that isolation disappears.

Planning Evaluation Question 3

"Question 3: How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?"

(Possible script and ideas for voice over)

Stage 0:  We used youtube (have Camtasia footage of youtube or still images)  in helping to find the music genre to do and from there we followed suggestions from youtube in trying to narrow down what song we will be choosing by viewing different bands and artists.

Stage 1: We researched our chosen artist "Delilah" going to her website (image of website her social networking profiles) as well as her twitter/facebook/instagram profiles in order to understand her genre and style that she chooses. We found that she had what we called the "Camden" style, this was clothing that was comfortable but stylish, ( Still images of delilah and Camden shops)that wouldn't be classed as a "costume" (Lady GaGa picture) that some artists might wear for a music video. From this we began to look at other artists that might be use this style (not genre) and analysed some of their music videos (The Prodigy- Start the dance).  (Show screenshots of song as well as 10 or so seconds of actual video)

Stage 2: After finding out what genre/style we were going for we began to research locations that we can use for the music video, we used google maps (Camtasia recording of google street view and myself typing in locations) in locating areas that we had been told are possible shoot locations that will suit the style of song we wanted. From this I used Camtasia ( Show Camtasia playing as well as 10 or so seconds of animatic) to create an animatic of possible shots in our music video.

Stage 3: In filming our music video we used ( Video Camera type here) (still image)for the actual filming process. As our chosen song ( Delilah- Never be another) had a a flowing feel to the music we decided that the camera movements should reflect this. The standard (Video Camera type here) when being held normally was not able to perform this feat successfully, so we used a fig rig connected to the camera. In this was the camera was able to give a strong sense of slowing movement ( 10seconds of best flowing shot in music video). The performing artists movements were too fast for out taste, so we used final cut pro to speed up the song to 140% natural speed (quick camtasia of slowing down the song) before our artist performed. This allowed us to slow down the video in post-production. (still of final cut pro and our work)

Stage 4: After filming we exported the raw footage into final cut pro, layering the base tracks over one another. ( show layering and adjusting speed of songs to match lyp-sync then quick footage of Anjana singing, both un-edited, then edited)As our footage and song was at a faster pace we used final cut to slow down each individual base track until it was at the same speed as our original song.  Each base track was then 40% slower than the music, however the lyp-syncing was correct as we used a speed up version of the song during performance.

Stage 5: We used markers on final cut to establish the beat of the song, this made it easier to cut and edit our music video. ( quick example of creating markers... IE every 3secs... mark...mark...mark)

Stage 6: After layering the base tracks, and establishing the beat I used colour corrector on each base track, as each base track was filmed at different times and dates, ( show colour corrector in use and editing of colour) lighting was an issue as well. The colour corrector tool allowed me to create a universal colour that made each shot feel connected. ( show unedited shots next to edited shots) I also chose a colour that reflected the locations and the theme/sound of our song. Creating atmospheric shots. (very short example of one scene flowing into another, with same colour pallet)

Stage 7: Cutting. One of the members of our group Tobi took over cutting and editing. (video footage of Tobi editing) As the song we chose had elements of being both faced pace and slow paced, often intertwining between the two, he used the cutting tool and cut using the markers as a guide. (show example of cutting) Tobi used fast cuts in the majority of the editing process. This created a nice contrast to the slowed down movements of our artist. We did not overly use any effects, we used cross fade when we transitioned from our outdoor location to our indoor location. (show transition)

Stage 8: After finalising our music video and exporting it we used handbrake as well as MPEG Streamclip to convert the video to allow us to put it on our blog.( footage of conversion and uploading) At this point the media department took our video and hosted it on Vimeo.

Stage 9: For my ancillary project I used similar steps to stage 2, using the internet to locate artists of a similar genre or style that I thought would be possible to incorporate themes and ideas from their digi-paks and adverts. I also used examples found on blogger in order to find out expected information on albums and adverts. (show blog and scrolling/clicking on digipaks)

Stage 10: We used (Digital Camera type here) to take pictures of our artist. After this we used Macs to view and decide on pictures that we wanted to use. (picture of camera and footage of scrolling through images)

Stage 11: I used photoshop to manipulate the images I chose for my ancillary. Layering images over and next to each other to fit the CD Album panel format.(open up CD panel psd, then open images)  I chose to have black and white outside and inside panels. To do this I converted the colour images to black and white, then I chose saturation and lighting levels in order to give sharp contrasts between the black and white.(show black and white and edited/non-edited images) After establishing the layout of images for my ancillary work I layered information such as record label and the barcode. (same video, layer record label and open barcode)

Stage 12: I converted my photoshop images in to .jpegs and then exported them into QuarkXPress to begin the final process of adding information such as Artist and album name as well as the track list. For my advert I also used Quark to add needed information such as release date and artist/album name.( Tutorial on QuarkXPress, cover everything I did, such as font/size/colour/location/rotating etc..)

(End it with a quick sped up of the Camtasia footage used in evaluation question)

Stage 13: I then used Camtasia and final cut pro to put all of this information together.

Inside panel research

Inspiration for the inside panels of album cover despite opinions about it being basic from critics.

Simplicity does not mean lazy, it is a choice of design selection...

What to do:

1: Find a new image to use as a background for my inside, the London city backdrop can not be used as it was not an image I took, but rather a stock image. Will be taking a picture of London skyline myself.
2: Add a random number to CD spine, next to "Alone in the world"

As you can see my mock up has been done however, over the holidays I've been inspired by other designs and I am still developing in some aspect.

Disk design

During the holidays, I began to dislike my mock up and one of the main things I didn't like was the actual disk design. I want it to stand out so I did more detailed research into different genres and artists and looked at how there album covers matched the disk cover.

Update

During the holidays, I have been looking at my mock and some of the feed back I got was that the picture inside needs to be changed because its slightly blurry so I have taken some more photos similar to that pose and will use the new images instead. Another thing I have been thinking about is the actual CD and what should be printed on it.
